Scary Statues -- Linköping

In a town with a church over 900 years old, you have to think twice about walking alone at night. There is some intuitive truth embedded in the leeriness of churches and crypts at night--the intertwining of good and evil stretching back to the infancy of our civilizations. Being armed with a CFRP tripod holding a heavy camera equipped with a bright flash made me feel a little more confident. Nikon makes the highest quality maces, I am told.

I was out for an evening walk to find sushi and take evening pictures. The presence of this statue startled me, literally. After tempting fate by following a path near the base of the church, I decided I was too cold, hungry and ill-equipped to do anything useful. There was a short pondering of entering one of the bars and watching the Swedes tie the Danes in a football match, but as usual I didn't see the point.

Instead I stuck with the original plan of going to the Wasabi Sushi Bar on Storgatan. The highly animated chinese family that runs the "restaurang" was eating their own dinner, so I felt a bit awkward stepping in on them. In fact, I passed them by the first time I looked in their front window. And what, for all this awkwardness, was the result? Warm sushi. Next time, I'll go back to Kikkobar.

And on the way home to the Scandic? Another scary statue.
